The rise of Home Entertainment Systems in OTT World

blog February 8, 2024

This lockdown gave us hopes, gave us Heroes, gave us beautiful dreams to sketch, and most importantly ample time. We slept all day, made our meal ourselves, and still had a lot of time, after years. This made all the generations confused at the same time. Something, in years upon which any person of any generation would agree. We all lost it at some time. We all wanted to do things that would help us hold it together. That’s the time that marked the rise of OTT platforms, which have brought the most exclusive content whether its movies, TV shows or Music videos right to our TV screen.

The last two years have been a golden run for most of OTT service platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, Zee5, Sony etc. Since our favourite cinema hall was closed so we wanted to have an experience similar to cinema halls in our own house. Along with the 4K LED Tv the next highest selling items have been high-end Home Entertainment systems. Online Retailers data prove that sale of music systems, home theatre setups, bluetooth speakers have rose exponentially.

Home Entertainment systems include :

Home Theatre Systems

Soundbar Speakers

Bluetooth or Wifi Enabled Wireless speakers

TV Media Streamer

Smart LED Televisions

When one sees the priority order for the products first comes the rich video quality followed by a crisp sound system. After all, we all want the gunshot to be heard when it is fired on the antagonist.

Portable Wi-Fi speakers and bluetooth enabled smart speakers are rapidly gaining market share in India. Gone are the days when the imported high end home theatre systems were available only to the Elites of India. Now in the global connected world, most of the brands are selling their products either through distribution channel or through online selling mediums. Online shopping platform and social media is bringing the top most luxury goods to cheapest possible gadgets accessible on everyone’s palm. The Home HiFi market is seeing and understanding this new age fascination.

India is a very big country with a population of more than 1.3 billion people as of 2020. India has currently more than 65% population under the age of 35 and most of them are now connected to Internet services. Not only that the new age Indian population is fairly educated and people of small towns are moving to big cities to earn their livelihood. This demographic change is also making a huge change in their spending behaviour. The young population of India is not shy of spending money in leisure and lifestyle. Whether its automobile, travel or food n beverage or home entertainment, every sector is witnessing this sharp rise.

Many companies have introduced many mid-range options just to target the Tier 2 population of India and to cater to the needs of many young Indians who like to groove or live life like the ones in the metropolitan cities. This is all happening due to the increasing pocket power of the Tier 2 population. The increase in income leads to the increase of buying power and all this lead to the growth of the Home Entertainment systems.
